👉 Be honest: how often do you get pulled out of the flow while coding? 🧑💻
☐ 2-3 times per day
☐ More times than I can count
☐ Constantly—debugging is my life now 😫
What if I told you that there’s a shiny new way to reduce context switching and stay in the zone?
…drum roll…
Introducing GitHub Copilot’s agent mode, now available in preview.
Agent mode handles a lot of the nitty-gritty for you—from fixing errors to tweaking test cases, refactoring, and searching for solutions. Agent mode allows Copilot to iterate on its own input, recognize mistakes, and fix them automatically.
What does this mean for you?
✅ No more bouncing between the terminal and your editor.
✅ No more copy-pasting fixes from the internet.
✅ Just seamless, fun coding.
We want you to focus on the parts of coding you enjoy: the creativity of making your ideas come to life. Getting bogged down by blockers and errors can stop you in your tracks, and we want to help you with that.
Let’s explore three ways to stay in the flow with Copilot’s new agent mode:
1️⃣ Let Copilot debug for you 🛠️
Getting stuck on an error? Agent mode applies fixes, it doesn’t just flag them. It catches runtime errors, refactors broken code, and helps ensure your program runs smoothly without you needing to leave your editor.
🔹 Tip: When debugging, let Copilot suggest and execute fixes step by step, so you can understand those fixes as you go!
2️⃣ Use agent mode for end-to-end coding 🚀
Instead of just completing a snippet, Copilot can now handle entire workflows—writing, debugging, and refining code until it works. Ask it to build a feature, and it will iterate through all necessary steps.
🔹 Tip: Use Copilot Chat in VS Code to give instructions in natural language and let Copilot handle the heavy lifting.
3️⃣ Batch edit multiple files with Copilot Edits ✍️
With Copilot Edits, now generally available in VS Code Insiders and no longer in preview, you can update multiple files at once using a single prompt. Need to create a component to be used across your codebase? Copilot makes those changes while keeping you in control. You can keep all, some, or no changes at all, and iterate over time.
🔹 Tip: Use the VS Code Speech feature for an even smoother experience—just tell it what to do like you would with a human pair programmer.
Ready to dive in? Try Copilot’s agent mode today and see how much more you can get done—without the interruptions. 🚀 Let us know what you think!
